An appeal has gone to the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports to include Kick-boxing as one of the Sports whose events would be competed for during the forthcoming 2018 National Sports Festival billed for December in Abuja.
President of the Kick-boxing Federation of Nigeria, Chief Supretendent of Police, Abubakar Yakubu, made the appeal in Lagos at the end of their Executive Committee Board Meeting held at the National StadI’m Surulere, Lagos at the weekend.
Speaking soon after the meeting, CSP Abubakar Yakubu, informed that Kickboxing is a global and International Sport that boasts of 38 gold, 38 Silver and 76 bronze totalling 156 medals at any particular tournament. As such, has the record as the only combat sport with the highest number of medals, hence, no serious sports minded nation can afford to toil with such a medal hauling sport, not even Nigeria.
“That is why I am appealing to the Sports minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung who may not be aware of the removal, to use his good office to ensure that Kickboxing is included as one of the scoring events at Abuja 2018 National Sports Festival and other National games. More so when his ministry’s motivation has been the driving force behind Nigeria’s Kickboxing success story in the continent so far.
He reasoned that the inclusion will go a long way in helpIng the spread and rapid development of the game in the country. And with this, Nigeria which is currently ranked 3rd in Africa and 12th in the world, will continue to soar in the Sport and consolidate on the position having won 3gold, 9 Sllver and 4 bronze medals at the just concluded AfrIcan Championship in Cameroun.
Aside this, CSP Abubakar also reasoned that Kick-boxing, has featured as scoring event in previous National Sports Festivasl in Kaduna ,Rivers and Eko 2012 hence there is need for continuity, as theu KBFN is equally embarking on aggressive grassroot development of the sport.Read Full Story
