What is the coalition all about?
We are coalition of different groups with a common goal, and the goal is the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari in next month’s election. Nigeria, from 1999 to 2014, walked on a path lined with thistles and thorns, but we thank God that she did not die. She only got her beautiful coat of many colours – her pride—nearly reduced to rag, as she limped on sore feet, which had sharp thorns lodged in them. That was, however, prior to May 29, 2015, but the election of President Buhari brought about a change in the country. We are already experiencing positive development in all spheres of our national life. Now, after four years, the time has come for us to return to the polls to elect who will lead us again. President Buhari is seeking a reelection, and there are some pretenders who are also seeking the same position, and we came together to work for the reelection of President Buhari, who has performed wonderfully well in his first term in office, with the hope that more positive developments would follow in the second term.
Which political party do you belong to?
This coalition has members from all the political parties who believe that President Buhari has done a good job in the last four years and want him to continue. In fact, our slogan is, Oto l’egbe, Oto l’eeyan, meaning ‘the party is different from the personality.’ We only believe in President Buhari’s vision for this country. In his first term, he has impacted positively on the development of the country, and we want him to continue. This coalition is taking the Buhari message to the grassroots, and even before selling the candidature of the president, the majority of the people are already behind him, and that is even making our work easier.
However, why do you believe so much in President Buhari?
Where do I even start? This administration is workers-friendly. We should not forget that there was a time when several states owed workers many months of salary arrears, but President Buhari bailed the states out with a bailout fund to pay the workers. With this, he eased the sufferings of many workers. We should not forget that he also paid the pension and gratuities of ex-staff of Nigeria Airways and Nigeria Railway Corporation.
In the area of economy, President Buhari has taken us from an economy that relies only on oil for survival to one that is now diversified. The president has given so much attention to agriculture, and today, we are producing much of the rice we consume. In the area of social programmes, this administration has been able to create employment opportunities for graduates through the NPower programme. We should also not forget the TraderMoni programme, which is boosting traders’ businesses. Some people may see the N10,000 being disbursed as small, but the truth is that this is a no-interest loan which is going a long way in boosting traders’ businesses. In the area of infrastructure, virtually all the roads that were abandoned by previous administrations have nearly been completed. A good example is the Lagos/Ibadan highway. Also, President Buhari has recognised the June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day, while awarding Chief MKO Abiola the highest award for presidents in the country, the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR). We should not forget that we had a Yoruba man as president for eight years, but he didn’t do this. So President Buhari has done a lot and that is why we are supporting him for a second term.
Now, what do you expect from the president in the next four years if he is re-elected?
The next level, of course. The next four years will surely witness more development in the country. We will definitely witness a consolidation of the achievements of the last four years. Our pride would be restored and that is why we are calling on more people to join the movement to reelect President Buhari.Read Full Story
