Member representing Ethiope East Constituency, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Evance Ivwurie, after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders in Labour Party, LP has disclosed his intention to defect to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Ivwurie, who stated this during an enlarged meeting of the party in Abraka, noted that the move became necessary having studied the political landscape in the state, adding that he would have moved to the ruling All Progressives Party, APC but realized it lacked the capacity of true leadership.
He said he could not be a member of a party that supports the killing of his constituents on daily basis; a party that has thrown the economy of Nigeria into what he described as an ‘economic valley’, saying PDP has what it takes to set the country on a path of recovery.
Ivwurie said,” Based on my personal ideology and as a people oriented person. I have no business to do with such a political party. As if that is not enough, APC is at war with itself. There is no national or state cohesion, there is faction everywhere at the federal, state and local level, hence the choice of PDP.
” The choice of PDP is simple. At the national level of our discourse, we have two frontline political party- APC and PDP. PDP provided leadership for this country under President Goodluck Jonathan, Obasanjo, Yar’Adua and all. I cannot give PDP an excellent mark but I can give them a good mark. So when you have two things, you have to compare. And I can boldly tell you that the opportunity PDP squandered for 16 years, APC has squandered more of that in less than a year.
“I have decided to join PDP because it is not the style of governance that drives development, but what drives development is leadership. And when you compare the leadership quality of PDP in this country to that of APC, you will realize APC is no match for PDP.”
He thanked LP for providing him the opportunity to ascend to the state House of Assembly and for that reason, LP remained dear to my heart, noting that although, at the moment, LP does not have governors in any of the state, hence there was need for LP to synergise with the PDP to enable them provide leadership for Nigerians.
He, therefore, called on all his followers to get ready to show solidarity with him in his quest to join the PDP, saying that there would be a formal ceremony soon to solidify his intentions.Read Full Story
