ASABA—TRADITIONAL Rulers in Delta State have appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the state to urgently convene a joint meeting of local government chairmen and the state council of Traditional Rulers to deliberate on security and other issues of public importance.
In a communique at the end of the quarterly meeting of the state council of Traditional Rulers in Asaba, the monarchs said besides security, such a platform would enable stakeholders to interface on topical national issues such as permanent voters card, PVCs, national identity card and environmental sanitation.
Chairman of the council, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, who read the communique, called for a one month extension of the on-going registration and collection Permanent voters cards to enable more eligible Nigerians register and collect the PVCs, saying that the suspension of the exercise on August 17 being proposed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, might lead to the disenfranchisement of voters during the 2019 general election.
“The voters card is key to the conduct of free, credible and transparent election and we want to say that the participation of a large percentage of the voting population in the electoral process will confer a measure of legitimacy and credibility on the process,” they said.Read Full Story
